King of Wessex 534-560

Cynric was the brother of Cerdic who assumed the government of the West Saxons after the death of Cerdic in the year 534.

The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle speaks little of Cynric's reign and tells us only that he fought the Britons twice; first at Sarum in the year 552 and the second time with his son Ceawlin at Beranbury in the year 556.

Cynric died in the year 560, and was succeeded by Ceawlin.
