DSM is an abbreviation of Diamond Star Motors. A joint effort between Mitsubishi(Diamond)and Chrysler(Star). They released the Mitsubishi Eclipse, Eagle Talon, and Plymouth Laser triplets in 1989. There were several trim levels available, the top of the line models were equiped with the Mitsubishi 4G63 2.0 liter engine, and an all wheel drive system. The final assembly plant for all these cars is based in Normal, Illinois. In 1995 the cars underwent major body and mechanical changes, and the Laser was dropped. The next major change came in 1996 when a convertable was added to the lineup. Eventually the Chrysler dropped Eagle and only the Eclipse was left. Most recently the Eclipse was redesigned for the new millenium. These cars were very capable, especially the first generation ones. In stock form they are able to reach speeds of 150 miles per hour(don't ask how I know) and with a little aftermarket help they are serious competition for anything this side of a Porsche 911. In addition DSMs have one of the best on-line followings for one type of car that I have seen, their homepage is http://www.dsm.org

Also an abbreviation for the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, used in psychology. This book categorizes all sorts of psychological issues, and is considered the essential reference for diagnosis. The current version as of this writing is the DSM-IV-TR, 'IV' indicating fourth edition, 'TR' standing for 'Text Revision'. It is published by American Psychiatric Publishing, Inc., who currently have a web page at http://www.appi.org/ if you're interested in more information. See also DSM-IV.

In the field of microelectronics, the term DSM is an abbreviation of Deep Sub-Micron. This is a reference to the ability of modern semiconductor technology, (the process used to fabricate integrated circuits), to define circuit features in silicon with geometries of less than 1 micron.

As semiconductor process technology has progressed to allow such small transistors to be used, more complex digital logic functions are able to be integrated onto a single IC. At the same time, a whole new range of physical factors have to be taken into account during the design stage.

DSM is the airport code assigned to Des Moines International Airport in Des Moines, IA by the IATA. The term is also used by lazy locals to refer to Des Moines area in general.
