DSP

DSP is an abbreviation for Digital Signal Processing, the branch of electronics which deals with the processing of discrete signals using computers (particularly DSP processors) and other digital electronic devices.

Examples of typical DSP applications are:

• adding effects to audio signals
• channel equalization in modems
• high-pass filters and low-pass filters
• audio and video compression
• image processing and analysis
• error correction coding

Short for Defense Support Program. DSP is a network of satellites that provides early warning of missle launches and nuclear explosions. DSP can also monitor non-military threats such as forest fires and volcanic eruptions.
