Danny Lebern Glover was born on July 22, 1947 in San Francisco, CA to James and Carrie Glover, both postal workers and active in the NAACP. The pair would also have four more children. The family lived in housing projects in San Francisco until Danny reached the age of 10.

Danny attended San Francisco State University and majored in economics. After graduating he worked as a Civil Servant. While working, he met his wife, Asake Bomani. The two married in 1975 and gave birth to a daughter in the following year. They named their daughter Mandisa, the Swahili word for sweet.

While things were looking good, He had a job, wife and a beautiful daughter, Danny still felt as if something were missing. He dabbled in acting in college, but never thought seriously of it until he started taking classes at the Black Actors' Workshop at the American Conservatory Theatre at the age of 28. He started slowly, working in in productions at the Los Angeles Actors Theater and the Eureka Theater.

His first movie role was a part as an inmate in the 1979 film, Escape from Alcatraz. He would slowly start working in bigger and bigger movies. In 1985, he got his big break with parts in four consecutive big-name films: "Places in the Heart," "Silverado," "Witness", and as Albert in "The Color Purple."

By the time The Color Purple was out, Danny Glover's name was beginning to be recognized. However, it wasn't until he paired with heartthrob Mel Gibson in the movie Lethal Weapon that his stardom would be fulfilled. Glover portrayed Captain Murtaugh, a cop with a family, whereas Gibson was the opposite, a young reckless cop who didn't care about his life.

Glover followed this up with a portrayal of Nelson Mandela in Mandela, a made for TV movie. This showed how versatile Glover was as an actor. Throughout his career he would bounce from genre to genre, doing action flicks like the Lethal Weapon series and Predator 2, to family oriented movies like Operation Dumbo Drop and Antz to the dramatic The Color Purple and comedic The Royal Tannenbaums.

Danny Glover received an Honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts Degree from San Francisco State University May 31, 1997.

Danny was struck a harsh blow in 1983, when his mother passed away. His mother, Carrie Hunley Glover was a 1942 graduate of tiny Paine College in Augusta, Georgia. In 1990, Glover donated $100,000 to endow a scholarship fund in her honor. And in May 2002, Glover spoke at the school's 120th commencement, and shook the hands of all of 100 graduates.

Not only this, but Danny has traveled around, speaking at various colleges against the Death Penalty, which he feels is inhumane. He has worked on movies which highlight black history and has done his part to shatter any stereotypes of blacks on the big screen.
