The last capital of the Confederacy.

After the fall of Richmond in early 1865, Jefferson Davis and other political leaders of the Confederacy relocated to Danville until the final surrender on April 18, 1865.

The city of Danville is located approximately 150 miles southwest of Richmond on the banks of the Dan River in Pittsylvania County. It presently features the Confederate Memorial Mansion, a memorial and museum. The mansion served as headquarters for the Confederate government during the brief period of time that Danville was capital of the Confederacy... a period of time best measured in weeks.
