Inside the arctic and antarctic circles, the time of the year that starts when the sun goes below the horizon for the last time in autumn, and ends when the sun comes above the horizon for the first time in spring. The dark season is sometimes called "the polar night", and is the price you have to pay for midnight sun.

1991 Children's TV sci-fi series starring Kate Winslet as a girl called Reet. Set in a school where a mysterious figure called Mr. Eldritch turns up and offers a free computer for everyone at the school. Of course, this is all part of a sinister plot by evil people to take over the world, for underneath the school lie the ruins of the ancient biological computer, Behemoth.
