David Glasgow Farragut was the first officer to hold the rank of Rear Admiral in the history of the U.S. Navy. He was instrumental during the civil war in the capture of New Orleans, and won the battle of Mobile Bay.

Admiral David Farragut (1801-1870)

David Farragut infact first joined the US Navy as a midshipman at the age of 9.

Once shouted "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!" and sailed right through an enemy minefield in order to go on and occupy Mobile Bay, the South's last Gulf port.

Hero of every crazy bastard everywhere.
