The Diet of Speyer, 1529 was a success for Charles V and the Catholic princes.

They repealed the decree of the 1526 Diet where they had allowed tolerance to Lutherans. The Diet agreed to enforce the Edict of Worms, basically making Lutheranism illegal. The six Lutheran princes and 14 Lutheran cities represented signed the Protestation. This was the beginning of Protestantism.
