Alternative rock band from
Santa Barbara, California, consisting of:
- J. R. Richards - vocals, keyboards
- Rodney Browning - guitars, vocals
- Scot Alexander - bass, percussion, keyboards, vocals
- George Pendergast - drums, percussion, vocals
Originally known as
Life Talking, and were well known in the
Santa Barbara music community, especially for their
Depeche Mode covers. They took their new name from a magazine article about
satellite television pirates in rural
India.
After changing their name, they contributed a cover of The Carpenters' "It's Going To Take Some Time" to 1994's tribute album If I Were A Carpenter. Their first album for A&M Records, released in 1995 and entitled Pet Your Friends, gave rise to the singles "Haze," "Counting Blue Cars," and "Charlie Brown's Parents."
Prior to their second album, the band contributed to another tribute album, this time to 1998's Depeche Mode tribute album For The Masses. They covered "Policy of Truth" for this album, then went on that same year to release their second album, And You Think You Know What Life's About. The first single from this album was the ballad "Once in a While."
