A
two hour block of
Disney cartoons that was widely
syndicated and usually shown
after school from 3-5. It was started in the early
90s. The
original lineup was
Gummi Bears,
DuckTales,
Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers, and
TaleSpin. Every year they would bump the first show over to
The Disney Channel, slide everything a half hour earlier, and add some new programming. The first show added was
Darkwing Duck. Other later additions included
Goof Troop,
Bonkers,
Gargoyles, and
The Mighty Ducks (not the movie, but the cartoon based on a team of
alien ducks who play
hockey and solve
crime. I'm not making this up).
The Disney Afternoon was pretty
high quality programming and many of the shows it
produced remain
beloved today. It is remembered very fondly by people like me who would
run home to see it.
