That summer we were at the Doctor's office a lot
My mom said we had to go
about an hour a week
In kid time, about seven hundred hours
There was no TV
just bad music
uncomfortable chairs
old people magazines
I had a Word Game book
so I did some crossword puzzles, then
When I got really bored
I would try Reader's digest
That summer, when we left the office
we asked our mom how she was doing
I'm fine, she said
everytime
It was years before we figured out what that meant
