Dog Mountain is a small mountain or large hill in Skamania County, Washington. It is 2948 feet above sea level, and rises directly from the Columbia River, meaning climbing to the top of it involves climbing about 2900 feet. Although 2900 feet is a rigorous climb, it is a possible hike for a moderately fit person, and the trailhead is located directly off of a state highway. For this reason, it is a popular hiking destination for people from the Portland metro area, and the parking lot, trail, and summit can often be quite crowded.

The top is covered with wild flower meadows, and offers expansive views of The Columbia River and The Columbia River Gorge. When I climbed to the top of this mountain, it reminded me of the cover of Houses of the Holy, only a little less so.
