The Duff Cooper Prize commemorates Duff Cooper (1890-1954) the British politician, diplomat and author. Following his death a group of his friends decided to endow a literary prize in his memory and established a trust (Registered Charity 313572).

The winner is decided on by a panel of five judges, who include the Warden of New College, Oxford, a member of Duff Cooper's family (currently Artemis Cooper) and another three judges who serve a five year term and appoint their own successors. The prize is awarded to any a work of history, biography, politics or poetry, published within the relevant year and the lucky winner receives £5,000, a magnum of champagne and a presentation copy of Duff Cooper's autobiography Old Men Forget.
