Inspired by the e2 Gaim Plugin and the new Trillian Pro SDK, I wrote a plugin that, like the Gaim version, automagically links up words or phrases enclosed in square brackets to the node of the same name on Everything2. Also supports things that look remarkably like hardlinks but are subtly different. Written in Delphi. Code available if you ask because until then I'm not likely to either comment it or officially put a license on it.
