Extended Capability Port

A specification designed by Microsoft and Hewlett-Packard to increase the speed of the parallel port. It is primarily used for high-resulation imaging devices, like printers, scanners and photocameras.

The standard in which ECP is described ("The IEEE 1284 Extended Capabilities Port Protocol and ISA Interface Standard", which is available from Microsoft) also describes RLE, DMA, FIFOS and PIO.
