Religions based primarily on Ancestor worship, meditation and a general belief that the soul is the centre of the universe.

On the whole, appear to be institutions that attempt to better the individual, as opposed to may western christian religions (which I am a part of one) which are primarily based on guilt and one man begin nailed to a tree for saying great it would be for people to be nice to each other for a change.

Most of the religious traditions of the world have pretty much the same goal... helping people to get along better. It doesn't help when religions bad-mouth each other.

Some eastern religions teach that divinity can be found within each of us. For example you are the Budda. So since we are all particles of God, we should strive to respect the divinity in others. Namaste.

For a western perspective, read The Perennial Philosophy by Aldous Huxley. And Alan Watts.
