King of Kent 664-673
This Ecgbert was the younger of the two sons of Earconbert who had ruled Kent until his death in 664, who for a reason that is not recorded, received the preference over his elder brother Hlothere.
Some conflict between the two brothers can be assumed as the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle reports that during his reign he cruelly murdered his two nephews, Elbert and Egelbright.
Ecgbert himself died in the year of 673, and left two sons Edric and Wihtred, but neither of these noble men were to succeed him, rather it was his brother Hlothere who reclaimed his due.
