He´s the prime minister of the
German federal state of
Bavaria.
Born on September 28th, 1941. In 1967 finished his studies of law at the University of Munich. He entered the CSU party in 1971 and was first elected into the bavarian parliament in 1974. He was Secretary of his party from 1978 to 1983. During this time he received his nickname of Blondes Fallbeil (blonde guillotine) for his hard discussion style.
Since 1993 he´s got his present duty. In September 2003 he was reelected with 60.7%, while the main opposition party SPD dropped to 19.6%.
In the German Elections 2002 he opposed the current German chancellor Gerhard Schröder in the Bundestag elections, losing by only 6000 votes.
