The Educational Institute of Scotland or the EIS is the British Trades Union that respresents teachers, lecturers and associated educational personnel employed in Scotland. It was founded in 1847 and claims to be the oldest teaching union in the world. It remains the biggest Scottish teaching union and seeks to protect the distinctive nature of Scottish education.

Within the EIS, the EIS College Lecturers Association (EIS/CLA) and the EIS University Lecturers Association (EIS/ULA) operate as self-governing associations representing as you would expect, College and University lecturers respectively.
