One of the most popular works for solo trombone, this piece was written by Leonard Bernstein in 1948 to honor the memory of his brother Burtie's dead dog, Mippy II (the replacement of Mippy I). Mippy II was hit by a truck and then reportedly placed in a cement sack by a neighborhood worker. This short, humorous piece is most notable for its accompaniment- the trombone player's own foot, which punctuates the melody.
