The feature of C, Perl, Unix and other hackish totems that so endear them to hackers. Being able to have a file named -rf in your directory, and then maybe being surprised by what rm * does, is a fine example.

Enough rope to shoot youself in the foot - Allen I. Holub - ISBN 0-07-029689-8

C and C++ are difficult when you don't know what you're doing. This book provides an elegant source or guidlines and tips which should help any new C/C++ programmer to write more reliable code, and to avoid the painful mistakes that the learning curve may contain.

Whilst littered with lots of code samples the author manages to insert enough humour to make the book very reabable.
