This will detail the steps involved in getting your
Cisco 67x into
debug mode. Before trying this a few key points to remember are:
- Have a terminal program installed, the instructions linked below assume you are using Hyperterminal on a Windows box. However, if you can terminal in on any OS then the instructions below should work.
- UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES type the command "es 5" at the debug prompt, it will turn the router into a paperweight. To reiterate DO NOT TYPE "es 5".
- Debug mode gives you alot of power over the router. DO NOT FIDDLE AROUND IN DEBUG MODE.
Keeping those things in mind, here are the directions.
- Terminal in to the router.
- Once in at the "User Access Verification" prompt, unplug the power cord from the back of the router.
- While holding down CTRL+C, plug the router back in.
- The router should say "Hello" and spew a bunch of garbage
- Press enter until you see a "=>" prompt.
You are now in debug mode. From here you can
flash the router with a new version of
CBOS (if the conventional method does not work), or recover a forgotten
exec password.
