City of Men, located on the
Long Lake. Its location was good for
commerce, and Esgaroth supplied food and drink to
Erebor and the
Woodland Realm from the south and east, while the products of Erebor and
Dale were funnelled through Esgaroth. It was destroyed by
Smaug in
TA 2941,
but was rebuit using
gold from his
hoard.
Esgaroth was built of wood on stilts driven into the bottom of the Long Lake.
