Evelyn Glennie is often referred to as the world's greatest
percussionist; she is critically acclaimed for her performances, which manipulate the emotional response of her audience as well as demonstrate great
musicianship. She has become world famous in musical circles, and tours the world. She is based in
Scotland.
She is also deaf, a fact that she does not like to publicise, as it isn't a part of her music. She has been criticised by more active participants in deaf culture because of this, arguing that she would be able to greatly raise awareness. Her response is that her speciality is music. She doesn't consider herself qualified to be, nor wants to be, a spokesperson for deafness.
