F-86

The F-86 ``Sabre'' jet first flew in the late 1940s. 6000 planes were built in total, and the Sabre was the first swept-wing fighter for the USAF. The Sabre saw combat in the Korean War and came in several different models (daylight fighters and bombers and all-weather interceptors). The last Sabre was built in 1956.

The Sabre was derived (as were early Soviet jets) from research captured by the Allies at the end of WWII. The Sabre, unfortunately, was nowhere near as maneuverable as the MiG-15. However, it didn't have the oxygen problems that the MiG-15 had.
