FISA is an acronym standing for Fédération Internationale des Sociétés d’Aviron, which is the IOC recognized international governing body for the sport of rowing. FISA is based in Lucerne, Switzerland. FISA was founded, with the original member nations of France, Switzerland, Belgium, Adriatica (now a part of Italy) and Italy, in Turin on June 25, 1892. FISA is the oldest international sports federation in the Olympic movement.
