A diet promoted by Dr. Benjamin Feingold in the 1974 book Why Your Child Is Hyperactive. The basic idea is that was used to be diagnosed as hyperactivity and now is known by Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or ADHD is caused in many cases by children eating too many artificial colors and artificial flavors or foods rich in natural salicylates. Removing these substances from a child's diet can cause dramatic improvement in hyperactivity symptoms according to Dr. Feingold.

Of course, there are those who believe this is hogwash, and that the only treatment for hyperactivity is to dope your kid up on Ritalin, but it seems to me the Feingold Diet is worth trying as a first step, and is probably a better way to eat in general. I have known children who the Feingold Diet has at least helped with, and although they may still be using Ritalin their symptoms are much less severe overall.
