In a theatre, a fly rope is a rope used to fly pieces of scenery and lighting bars in from the roof. There are normally at least two (three is normal on a bar) ropes per item, which are tied off on the fly gallery. Safety dictates that, apart from the very lightest of objects, at least two techies should be involved in flying anything - more if required.
