Sun in the field, June sixteenth
she laid on the blanket, watching
from five yards,
I stood by the tree, seeing amber
eyes in the swaying grass,
hiding a smile

walking by wild vines
climbing the white trellises
around the farmhouse
something seen there
had been hidden before,
on the forest path,
looking for the
words for my promise

white rabbit peering out
in the summer grass and
the trails behind us,
look behind and she's following
