A character in 2001: a Space Odyssey, he and Dave Bowman were the only two of the crew that were awake to fly the Discovery to Jupiter/Saturn. (Jupiter if you saw the movie; Saturn if you read the book.) The rest of the crew was in hibernation for most of the flight. It is Frank, who does an EVA to replace the AE-35 unit only to be killed by HAL. Frank's body is discovered and he is brought back to life in 3001: the Final Odyssey.
