Swedish nobleman, military officer and politician. Born 1719, died 1794. Father of Hans Axel von Fersen.

Count von Fersen was one of the most successful Swedish generals during the Seven Years' War (1756-1763). For over 30 years, he played a significant political rôle in Swedish and international politics. In the 1750s, he was the leader of the Hat Party, and was later part of the court of the King of Sweden.

After the coup d'état of 1772, King Gustav III of Sweden appointed Count von Fersen to the privy council, but he soon tired of the aristocratic opposition.

During the period of struggle between the king and the nobility, in 1789, Count von Fersen was briefly imprisoned - after his release, he lost all influence.
