Front-End Load, or FE, is a type of commission charged on mutual fund purchases. When you purchase an FE fund, you pay out a flat percentage of your purchase amount as commission. After this, however, there is no further fee to redeem your units or switch to other FE funds in the same fund family. Front load is also known as Initial Sales Charge, or ISC.

Other types of mutual fund commission include: Back-End Load, which is also called Deferred Sales Charge (DSC); and No Load (NL).
