A TV chef who used to make wonderful meals, in which the ingredients didn't cost much. A few of the items in his recipes were pricy, but his point was that you should only spend money on the ingredients that really had to be high-quality. That's the distinction between being frugal and just being plain cheap.

Rumor has it he was charged with a crime and taken off the air; this reporter is too lazy to do his homework.

Then I shall step in.

Jeff Smith, a long time PBS regular known as "The Frugal Gourmet", was being investigated for allegedly co-ercing male minors into sexual relations.

He eventually settled with the plaintiffs, to the tune of $5 million. Good thing he saved so much money over the years with his frugal cooking style.

Interestingly, he is an ordained minister of the United Methodist Church.

What next? Martin Yan (of Yan Can Cook) accused of brutally slaying 7 with meat cleaver?
