Argentinian striker (goalscorer) born Feb 1 1969, "Batigol" started his professional soccer career in his home country with the club Newell's Old Boys in 1988/1989. The following season saw him move to River Plate and the season after that saw him surprisingly play for River Plate's closest rivals, Boca Juniors.

His fourth club in four seasons would be Italian club Fiorentina, where he would stay nine seasons. His feud with former Argentinian National Team coach, Daniel Passarella was well-publicized. Apparently Passarella refused to call up Batistuta to the team because of Batistuta's long hair.

His move to AS Roma shocked many who thought the Argentinian player would finish his career at Fiorentina.
