Details
The station was originally named "Gallery Place" because it is situated under the National Portrait Gallery. The "Chinatown" suffix was added in the 1980s - the station's main entrance lets out right beneath the Chinatown arch - and the station may eventually be called Gallery Place-Chinatown/MCI Center because that arena is directly above the station. The main branch of the public library system is near the station, as is the original downtown Convention Center.

From here you can...
go back to the Metro project,
jump to the red, yellow, or green line,
go inbound to Metro Center or Archives-Navy Memorial,
or outbound to Mount Vernon Square / 7th Street-Convention Center or Judiciary Square.
