It's scary, evil, and dramatic. As more than one reviewer has noted, it makes movies like Snatch and Mean Machine look like disney movies.
Paul Bettany plays the unnamed Gangster, who kills, betrays, and disturbs his audience along the way, growing up all the way in to big bad Gangster #1 Malcolm McDowell. I won't spoil the story for you, but this one of the great crime stories out there. It's a simple story, but the ending and characters surprised me every which way.
David Thewlis and Saffron Burrows play Freddie Mays and Karen, Gangster's old boss and wife duo. Their roles are delicious and nuanced. Their reappearance shocking and debilitating.
