An athletic and cultural event held every four years. The games' Web site (www.gaygames.com), says anyone can participate regardless of their sexual orientation, but later it says that the games celebrates the "diversity and scope of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community.

The games began in 1982. It was held in 1998 in Amsterdam, and will be held in 2002 in Sydney, Australia. The games in Amsterdam were a lot of fun, even for non-participants -- there were street festivals, concerts, outdoor plays, and other events in addition to the games. It was not unusual to see a group of men dressed as cheerleaders walking down the street, carrying their pompoms, waving to another group of men dressed in black leather.
