An African American inventor and educator, and original creator of peanut butter, as well as many other uses for the peanut, which was very abundant, but have very few uses for it in his lifetime. He was born in or around 1864, a time when slavery was still practiced, in Diamond Grove, Mo. He lost both his parents very young, his father died before he was born, and his mother was taken in a slave raid soon after. Despite his humble beginnings, his thirst for knowledge, and amazing creative abilities lead him to be one of this nations first and greatest African American figures in science.
