Class A soprano solo written by Franz Shubert, in the key of F and in 68 time, this song gives a first person narrative of Gretchen's emotions while she mourns her lost loved one. It was originally written in German. The piano accompaniment is an ethereal whirl of 16'th notes ment to resemble the turning of her spinning wheel, and very masterfully composed. It is not very well known and rather formidable with six pages, but I would recommend all musicians, piano players and singers check it out.
