On a fighter plane, this is the point where the line of fire from the guns on either side of the airplane intersect, commonly set between 800-1000 yards if I am not mistaken. Ultimately this is where you want your target to be when firing on. Much beyond that is too hard to aim, and much closer the enemy should be able to avoid the pilots fire.
