British director who shot to international fame with the release of his
debut film,
Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels in
1998. Not only did this movie bring him
fame and fortune but it also attracted the attention of
Madonna, and the couple have recently become
parents.
Ritchie says he became interested in direction after watching the classic Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and started his film career in 1993 as a runner. Three years later he was making television advertisements and after making a 20 minute short, "Hard Case", he secured funding for Lock Stock.
Ritchie's new film Snatch, which premiered in London last night, is another east London gangster movie, starring (amongst many others) British stars Vinnie Jones and Mike Reid as well as Brad Pitt. Ritchie claims that this will be his last gangster movie, and is reported to be interested on working on a historical themed film for his next project.
