The Harbin Y-8 serves as both a military and civilian transport in China. The four engine turboprop transport is perfect for the rugged terrain of China's western provinces. The Y-8 is a slightly modified version of the Antonov An-12BP military/civilian transport. Both of those aircraft bear a striking resemblance to the capabilities and performance of the Lockheed C-130. The plane was first manufactured in China in the early 1980's, and production has been slow.
