Hawkgirl is a
DC comics superheroine, often associated with
Hawkman and member of the
Justice League of America.
The
Golden Age Hawkgirl was Shiera Sanders, who was the reincarnation of the Egyptian princess Chey-Ara.
The
Silver Age Hawkgirl was Kendra Saunders, a women who committed
suicide. When Kendra Saunders committed suicide and her soul left her body, the
soul of the original Hawkgirl entered her body. Despite this, Hawkgirl still believes herself to be Kendra and has Kendra's memories.
The Justice League cartoon on
Cartoon Network (as well as the sequel,
Justice League Unlimited) introduced an entirely original version of the character. In the show, Hawkgirl was Shayera Hol, a founding member of the Justice League who turned out to have been a
spy. This version of Hawkgirl is arguably the most popular.
