A haystack is a meal consisting of a layer of corn chips (Fritos, usually, not the nacho kind...) covered with chili or a similar bean-like substance, and shredded cheese and lettuce.

That's a bare-bones haystack. Usually you will add one or more of the following: chopped tomatoes, onions, sliced olives, salsa, sour cream.

They usually serve them at our cafeteria on Saturday nights. They're not my favorite, and I can't stand beans, so I usually go without that part. (Mama makes 'em better.)
