The period of Antarctic exploration from the Fifth International Geographical Conference in 1895 to the end of Shackleton's Antarctic exploits.

The conference is taken as the start date as it moved that exploration to fill in the gap on the globe which was Antarctica was the most important geography remaining to be done.

The end date is a little less precise. Shackleton's Endurance Expedition finished in 1917 but Shackleton returned, yet again, on the Quest, being buried on South Georgia in early 1922.

Expedition leaders of this era include Borchgrevink, Scott, Shackleton and Amundsen.
