A massive oil drilling station off the Grand Banks, Newfoundland. Because of the need to produce an iceberg resistant design, the project was a massive engineering undertaking. The oil platform sits atop a massive concrete gravity base structure (GBS) sitting on the ocean floor. The GBS also acts as a crude oil reservoir and has "teeth" to protect it against icebergs, should primary iceberg diversion activities fail.

The Hibernia offshore oil field is owned jointly by Mobil Canada (33.125%), Chevron Canada Resources (26.875%), Petro-Canada (20%), Canada Hibernia Holding Corporation (8.5%), Murphy Oil (6.5%) and Norsk Hydro (5%).
