Hugh Cornwell formed the punk band the Stranglers generally playing guitar and singing lead vocals.

Even though the Stranglers were in the forefront of the British punk movement in the late 70's, Cornwell was working on solo projects almost from the beginning. Even so, he stayed with the Stranglers for their first 10 studio albums before finally devoting himself to his solo career in 1990.

Cornwell released his 8th solo recording, Hi Fi, in 2001.
