The first line of the poem "Conscientious Objector" written in 1931 by Edna St. Vincent Millay and included in the volume Wine From These Grapes in 1934. The poem very clearly illustrates her views on pacifism and conscientious objectivism and is a long line in a series of pre and post WWII collections addressing brutalities of war and oppression throughout the world that she wrote and published in her lifetime.
