The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy, according to its own literature, "a learning enterprise that builds the capacity of students, teachers and policymakers to improve and transform mathematics and science teaching and learning."

A more objective categorization of the school might be to say that it's a three year, publicly funded, residential high school for over acheivers.

IMSA is in Aurora, Illinois, and was founded with the help of Nobel Laureate Leon M. Lederman. The school provides its students with many learning opportunities and facilities that they would not have enjoyed elsewhere, but at the cost of not having football or wrestling teams. Application is open to eighth-grade students and high school freshmen.
