The concept of the Immediate Revelation of the Divine is one of the central pillars of Quakerism. To sum, it is the belief that God manifests directly to each and every human being as opposed to only through Jesus and those that he brings revelation to, such as the Pope, or through any other secondary medium. This concept that The Holy Spirit moves within everyone, that there is, in effect, that of god in every person, leads to most of the practices of The Religious Society of Friends, including nonviolence, and silent worship, which is actually a misnomer; a true Quaker meeting is not silent, instead it is a worship service that every member of the congregation leads, or rather, that The Spirit leads through all of the people taking part in it.
